Improvements to the South Elementary School playgrounds are planned to ensure ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility for a disabled student.

This will enable access to most of the swings and the lower playground, Supt. of Schools Margaret Adams told the Select Board recently when requesting a $44,400 reserve fund transfer, which they approved unanimously.

This amount, combined with $23,402 from the School Department’s Building Revolving Account, will cover the total $67,802 cost.

“The work will enhance playground accessibility at South School for children with mobility issues,” School Committee Chair Michelle Ayer said.

The Advisory Committee also unanimously approved the reserve fund transfer Tuesday night.
