South Shore Conservatory (SSC) presents One World, an outdoor concert featuring SSC Youth Orchestra (SSCYO),SSC Community Voices (Too), and Mother Nature, with special guests Spectrum of Sound choir from the Doug Flutie Foundation, on Sunday, May 7, 2 pm at Weir River Farm, 140 Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham. This event also marks the premiere of Heal the Earth, a commissioned work composed by SSCYO Artistic Advisor and Music Director/Conductor of the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, Steven Karidoyanes, which highlights the beauty of our planet and our role in protecting it as a vital resource.

SSC Youth Orchestra is an auditioned, sequential youth orchestra program that provides an opportunity for young musicians, grades four through high school, a place to perform symphonic music at a high level in a well-organized and supportive full orchestra program. SSC Community Voices is an inclusive chorus designed for singers, age 16 and up, of all abilities.

The One World project was conceptualized by SSCYO Program Director and Principal Conductor Elijah Langille and SSC Director of Community Engagement Kristi Faby who were searching for opportunities for their students to interact and experience music in new and collaborative ways. They wanted to prove that students at any level could be transformed through music exploration. Orchestra and chorus students were able to collaborate with Karidoyanes during the creative process.

“What excites me most is the opportunity for us, as educators, to perform/create with all our students, regardless of ability. As conductors, we sometimes miss out on this shared opportunity. A special connection takes place when both student and teacher are collaborating, one informing the other,” said Langille.

This collaborative project is supported by the Kathy Czerny Innovation Fund. SSC Community Voices is supported in part by the Cordelia Family Foundation. This concert is free to the public, with a suggestion donation to Trustees of the Reservation for their efforts toward environmental conservation.
