South Shore Conservatory’s 2019 Chase Away the Winter Blues Gala
Annual event supports SSC Community Partnerships, Creative Arts Therapies, and Tuition Assistance
South Shore Conservatory (SSC), based in Hingham, celebrates the 13th year of its Chase Away the Winter Blues gala on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 6 pm -12 midnight, at the Boston Marriott Quincy. The festive evening is filled with music, dancing and celebration, and showcases the SSC faculty and the exceptional programs provided to Hingham and the greater South Shore community.
Over the last 12 years, the South Shore community has come together to support Chase Away the Winter Blues, with the belief that arts education is truly transformative for all and should be available to everyone. In 2018, the gala raised over $325,000, making it the most successful Blues to date.
Proceeds from the gala benefit SSC Community Partnerships, which includes ImagineARTS, SSC’s arts and literacy program in the Brockton public schools; Creative Arts Therapies programs; and SSC’s tuition assistance program, affording students the opportunity to receive a music education. SSC believes that everyone, regardless of age, ability or circumstance, can benefit from the transformative nature of a music and arts education. SSC continues to expand programming, reaching more South Shore communities, and people, for whom this opportunity would not be possible because of aid or access barriers.
Blues Co-Chairs, Linda Jones and Christine Puzo, along with a Blues committee comprised of SSC Trustees, Overseers, parents, and friends work hard to create a fabulous evening filled with music, friendship and generosity. The event begins with a cocktail reception with an SSC faculty jazz quartet, featuring Jeff Williams on piano, Peter Mundt on bass, Ted Sajdyk on drums, and Trevor Kellum on saxophone, followed by a seated dinner, outstanding music performances, and exciting live and silent auctions.
Live auctions items include a South African safari donated by Travel Sommelier, a Boston Red Sox ticket package, a private dinner catered by Paul Wahlberg, among others. The silent auction highlights include a private wine tasting, an interior design consultation, one week of SSC Arts Camp, and personal one-on-one events with SSC Preschool/K teachers (ex: bowling, movies, etc.).
For those who cannot attend the full gala, they are welcome to join After Party starting at 9 pm, featuring great music with dance band East Coast Soul, and a Piano Bar with SSC faculty members Jeff Williams on piano, Peter Mundt on guitar and vocals, and Emily Browder Melville on vocals.
