Providing community service and having fun at the same time is a great combination for anyone, especially kids involved in the South Shore Special Needs Athletic Partnership (SNAP).
Last Friday a group of 20 SNAP kids, their families and other adult volunteers assembled 120 holiday gift bags for veterans in Hingham, Hull, Cohasset and Braintree. The bags were filled with gloves, hats, warm socks, personal care items, gift cards and snacks valued at $60.00 per bag. The assembly line stretched through a large part of the former light plant garage on Cushing Street and resembled what Santa’s workshop will look like in a few weeks.
The gift bag project is one of several community service projects undertaken by SNAP kids, their families and SNAP mentors that includes placing flags on veterans graves for Memorial Day weekend as well as the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program. SNAP will be sponsoring the Hingham edition of WAA on Saturday, December 18th when volunteers will place 1060 wreaths on veterans graves in St. Paul’s Cemetery and along with the local DAR Chapter almost 300 more wreaths in the Fort Hill Cemetery. WAA is a national program in which almost 1.8 million wreaths will be placed on veterans graves across the country.
South Shore SNAP is very grateful to the generous donors who provide the financial support to make the community service, athletic activity and summer program a reality.
Wonderful job!
Thanks to South Shore SNAP for providing gift bags with essential items and some goodies to veterans in four local communities supported by businesses in the area and organized by Tom, “Hoffy”. It’s greatly appreciated by all!
