Strand, the Boutique will open pop-up shop in Hingham

February 28, 2023 by Carol Britton Meyer

Customers from Hingham and other South Shore communities who frequent Strand, the Boutique in Duxbury will be happy to learn of owner Caroline Widman’s plan to open a pop-up shop at the Derby Street Shops by early summer.

“Our goal has always been to bring a curated collection of fun, fresh, and beautiful clothes to our customers,” she told the Hingham Anchor. “We like to think of our style as an intersection of West Coast meets East Coast — timeless styles that can go from day to night and from beach to bar. We are so excited to expand our footprint to the Derby Street Shops!”

Residents of Hingham, Norwell, Cohasset, and other communities “have been a big part of our customer base since we first opened in 2020 during the pandemic,” she said. “It was quite a start!”

Since Widman is a former Hingham resident, many women she knew from when she lived here took an interest in her Duxbury Marketplace shop and became regular customers.

“I’m really excited about this additional location, because it will be an easier way to [access what we offer] than coming to Duxbury or checking out our website,” Widman said. “So many women have been shopping with me from the beginning, so this will be a more convenient way to see firsthand what Strand has to offer and to try things on — to just pop in! It’s an ideal spot to reach the entire South Shore.”

One of the reasons Widman jumped at the opportunity to open the pop-up shop is how well the brand has resonated with the coastal community in Duxbury.

“We had seen such success both in-store and online over the last few years that I had been thinking of trying to grow the brand’s physical presence,” she said. “Now those who may not have heard of the name in other coastal communities will know about the Strand.”

The name comes from the German word for “beach,” she explained. “The beach is such a big part of my life, and all the styles we offer are centric to coastal living.”

The Strand features all women’s clothing — from fashionable cover-ups suitable for the beach and then out at night to sundresses that could be worn at a wedding but also out to dinner — and accessories that include necklaces, earrings, bags, and shoes — “everything that falls under the term ‘accessories,'” Widman said.

The boutique features unique clothing that not everyone else is wearing. “We carry only a few in each size,” she explained.
The shop is expected to open up by June 10 or earlier at the former Nantucket Kids location.

“We’ll be hiring on the South Shore,” Widman said. Email caroline@stranddux.com for more details.
