Student Musicians Celebrated in Hingham

Among the many cancelled events during this time of remote learning and social distancing are the Hingham High School year-end music department concerts, including the major works chorus concert and the combined band/orchestra spring concert. These top notch musical performances are traditionally capped off by award ceremonies.

Despite the cancellations, the music directors found ways to recognize students and distribute awards. Earlier this week, volunteers from the Hingham Music Parents Association (HMPA) delivered plaques and yard signs to student award recipients. The HMPA was happy to help make this happen.

The Association noted:

“We have so many talented student musicians in Hingham who would have been recognized at their final spring concerts for their contributions to band, chorus and orchestra at Hingham High School. Because this couldn’t happen in person this year, the HMPA was thrilled to collaborate with our Hingham High School music directors on the distribution of awards and yard signs to the homes of our 2020 music award recipients.” HMPA Co-Presidents, Holly Constant and Elise Warhaftig.

 

Hingham High School band director, Brian Cincotta, shared in these sentiments:

“Our traditional Spring Concert awards ceremonies have always been such rites of passage for our students. Absent the opportunity to share that experience with them this year, we felt this was an appropriate way to both recognize and celebrate their achievements in a manner just as public and noteworthy. They certainly deserve it.” Brian Cincotta, Hingham High School Band Director.

Although nothing can replace the magic of live music experienced at the concerts, the distribution of awards and yard signs was a way to acknowledge our student musicians, particularly graduating seniors, within our community. Make sure to congratulate these hardworking students on their achievements. A list of award recipients follows. The music departments also wish to recognize seniors Raffi Alexander and Romee Premasiri who are receiving music-related scholarships.
