There’s some talk around town among parents and others as to whether there will be a redistricting of the elementary schools now that Foster School is open and more space is available.
Hingham Public Schools enrollments decreased from 4,262 students in 2020 to 3,616 in 2025.
Supt. of Schools Katie Roberts had this to say in response to an email from the Hingham Anchor asking if any information was available about possible redistricting and moving those students to Foster School:
“Though overall district enrollment has declined post-pandemic, elementary enrollment has held relatively steady since 2022, with current PreK-5 enrollment of 1,756 students and total district enrollment of 3,616 students. Given that Hingham Public Schools last conducted a 10-year enrollment study in 2018 and the pandemic understandably impacted enrollment trends, we are currently engaging in a new 10-year enrollment study through the NESDEC (New England School Development Council)organization. We will share the results of that study with the school committee later this Spring.”
