The School Committee reviewed and approved Supt. of Schools Margaret Adam’s goals for the 2023-2024 school year this week.
Superintendents are evaluated by school committee members using the process outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which details five stages for evaluation that include self-assessment, goal setting, action planning, and other standards.
The first goal for the new school year focuses on ensuring the district’s continuous improvement; human resources management and development; providing leadership for implementing comprehensive plans that identify the district’s most critical needs; outlining processes for continuous improvement that will address those needs most effectively; and determining the measures that will be used to assess progress.
Key actions include implementing year two of the Hingham Public Schools strategic plan, year one of the two-year professional development plan; developing and implementing year one of equity goals and the second year of the HPS communication plan; and creating opportunities to “amplify student voices.”
Goal two relates to strengthening HPS’ multi-faceted procedures for hiring, recruitment, and retention, including strengthening the HPS’ partnership with the Massachusetts Diversity in Education Network.
Developing a comprehensive program evaluation of student services is the third goal. In order to ensure equitable and inclusive learning environments for students with special needs, the HPS school district will participate in an evaluation of current Student Services programming that will outline short and long-term goals for identified areas of improvement.
Goal four relates to Adams’ planned engagement in the second year of the New Superintendent Induction Program, which empowers new superintendents to accelerate student learning through strategic leadership. This will help ensure the district’s “continued focus on improvement.”
You really need to give more coverage to the issue of the battle fr a living wage that the Hingham Para-Educators are fighting for.
