Susan Ross, of Hingham, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia, Susan joined her husband, Don, in heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She was 81.
Susan was born in Boston on February 5, 1942, to the late Angus and Bertha MacLean. After leaving the city, Susan and her family spent the remainder of her childhood in The Birches neighborhood in East Weymouth. She graduated from Weymouth High in 1959 and was self-employed for more than 30 years, providing love and companionship to older adults in their homes.
Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald M. Ross, and her sister Janet Carlino, Susan leaves behind her brother Alexander MacLean of Hingham; her son Mark Jobin of Quincy; daughter Suzanne Holmquest, son-in-law Kirk, and grandson Anders of Hingham; and son Philip Jobin and daughter-in-law Keri of Abington.
Susan loved her family and friends, cats, and traveling the world. Her family would gather at her home for the holidays and pool parties in the summer. She, Don, and her two best friends, her siblings Sonny and Janet, spent many weekends hiking the mountains of New Hampshire and disco dancing at the hot spots on the south shore. Susan adopted many cats throughout her lifetime and strongly advocated for animal rights.
Susan had many hobbies, and at the top of her list was exploring ancient ruins in places like Egypt, Peru, and Mexico, where she and Don would make friends with the locals and assemble the most incredible photo albums after each adventure.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Monday, June 19, 2023, 10:30-11:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
