The Company Theatre announces their upcoming production of Hair. It’s 1968, the summer of love, and a revolution is exploding to change America. Hair, the legendary rock musical bursts onto the stage with its Grammy Award-winning score. “Let the sunshine in” with Broadway’s first great rock musical.
Hingham cast members include Tim Bevens, Shawn Verrier and Devan Kushnir.
Hair embraces the story of a group of politically active hippies during the Age of Aquarius living a bohemian life and fighting against mandated enlistment into the Vietnam War. Claude, Berger, Hud, Sheila, and their friends – collectively referred to as the tribe – struggle to balance their lives, loves, and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war, their conservative parents, and society. In the end, the protagonist must decide between resisting the draft or serving in Vietnam.
Hair is directed by award-winning director, and Company Theatre co-founder, Zoe Bradford. The show features musical direction by Robert McDonough, choreography by Sally Ashton Forrest, lighting by Dean Palmer, Jr., and sets by Ryan Barrow.
As history repeats itself, today’s youth are politically minded and protesting to have their voices heard during this tumultuous time in our nation’s history. In solidarity, the Massachusetts League of Women Voters will be present at performances of Hair to encourage voter registration. Patrons will be able to register onsite while attending performances of the production.
“This cast of young adults has our stage resonating with life as they perform memorable songs with new choreography. The professional band, vintage costumes, and kaleidoscopic lighting effects are sure to be exciting.” remarked Bradford. “Hair is perhaps even more relevant than when it first appeared on Broadway. The production is about speaking out, about action for change. I am proud to have the Massachusetts League of Women Voters partner with us.”
Hair opens Friday, July 29, and runs through Sunday, August 21 with evening and matinée performances. General admission tickets are $48 and premium seating tickets are $56.
