January 25, 2022 Submitted by the Hingham Democratic Town Committee
The Hingham Democratic Town Committee (HDTC) is holding a clothing drive and fundraiser to benefit South Shore Veterans Assistance, Inc. The drive is being held this week through January 28.
HDTC is asking for donations of new socks and underwear (for both men and women) and/or to make a financial donation.
During the virtual kickoff for the project last Saturday, a SSVA representative described the mission of the organization “to empower and assist veterans in need.” One component of their work is to distribute food, clothing, and basic needs to area veterans. But importantly, the organization also helps build ramps at the homes of veterans who are mobility challenged, ramps that are essential for helping disabled veterans get out and about.
These ramps are often donated to SSVA, but ramp connectors and other parts need to be purchased by SSVA so volunteers can properly install them in homes. This is why SSVA needs financial donations.
To make a donation – of socks, underwear, or checks made out to South Shore Veterans Assistance, Inc. -- Donations of socks, underwear, or checks made out to South Shore Veterans Assistance, Inc. can be delivered to Hingham Community Center, 70 South Street, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, Jan. 25 -28. After 3:30, HCC’s front door may be locked, so please knock on the door and someone will come let you in. There will be a bin for clothing donations and a lock box for checks.
Checks may also be directly mailed to:
South Shore Veterans Assistance, Inc.
