“We care more,” said Ben Kluvers, Director of South Shore Select’s Development Program on why he truly believes Select is the premier soccer program on the South Shore. For Ben, what happens off the field is often more important than what happens on the field. He wants his soccer families to know that they are part of a large Select family and prides himself on knowing the name of everyone in his program including parents and siblings. It’s this personal level of connection that means the most to Ben and what he believes sets Select apart from other soccer clubs. Kluvers joined Select in 2017 and can’t see himself anywhere else!

Select’s philosophy is based on their six core values: Integrity, Family, Respect, Dedication, Passion and Community. It is these core values that Kluvers and the other members of Select really take to heart. While Select’s goal is to develop strong, confident and well-rounded boys and girls through the game of soccer, they also strive to make each player an even better individual off the field by teaching them about a sense of community and social responsibility.

Kluvers is also proud of the fact that Select offers a soccer pathway for everyone based on their time and skill level. While Select is very honored to have teams that have won national championships, they are also excited about the boys and girls that are just starting their soccer journey. Most players who join Select stay for their entire soccer careers which is a testament to the program.

Select, which operates out of the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham, understands that parents are looking for programs that offer flexibility, convenience, and fun. Their Development Program for boys and girls ages 2-10 aims to meet these needs. Tots is for toddlers (ages 2-5) who are introduced to basic soccer skills in a guided soccer class. Players graduate to Futures (ages 4-8) and train once or twice a week (your choice) and participate in seasonal jamborees. Finally, Juniors (ages 7-10) where players compete on teams in local league play.

Once they reach age 10, boys and girls are placed on competitive club teams based on ability and desired level of commitment. These Select teams participate in local, regional, and national competitions, and many players go on to play soccer at the collegiate level. However, it is the goal of Select to ensure that there is a place for all players with varying degrees of desire and skill.

Another area that Kluver believes sets Select apart is their dedicated coaching staff. Their licensed coaches bring different perspectives and coaching styles which is a major factor in the successful development of their soccer players. This staff has experience playing and coaching at the youth, college and professional levels, and all share a passion for soccer.

Kluvers emphasizes that Select is more than just soccer games - their programs include classroom sessions, mentoring, community service opportunities, enrichment programs, club-wide parties, as well as Select Member Pricing on camps and clinics. They are proud to call this the “Select Difference”.

Are you interested in learning more about Select or would like your children to join? Boys and girls (birth years 2016-2004) can register for TRYOUTS on May 31 and June 1 at Union Point, Weymouth. If you can’t make these times please reach out to hello@selectma.com to schedule a time to come to one of their training sessions. Younger children can sign up directly for programs at the website selectma.com.

Can’t commit to a year-round program? Enroll in one of Select’s camps and clinics! Select camps and clinics provide a welcoming and positive environment for players to learn fundamental soccer skills, make new friends, and most importantly — have fun! These programs are open to the public; players do not need to be part of Select to participate.
