January marked the Snug's 17th anniversary. "We're doing well. Business is up every year, and we continually see new faces," said Ed Brown, who owns the Irish pub in downtown Hingham with his wife, Ellen Nally Brown.

When asked what makes The Snug special, Ed had this to say: "We've really been able to connect with the community over the years. Ellen is from Hingham, and I've been here in town for 30 years. We have a lot of family and friends here, and everyone knows one another's names. It's like the 'Cheers' of downtown Hingham!"

The Snug attracts a diverse crowd -- from plumbers, electricians, masons, and carpenters to stockbrokers  and local celebrities and sports figures -- all looking for a good time and a chance to relax during or after a busy day.

"It's a place where you can put down your cell phone and strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you," said Ed. "People come here to relax and talk about how their day went or to meet an old friend from high school. It's a warm and comfortable spot."

It's not unusual for the grown children of parents whom  the Snug once served to stop by when they're back in town during their college break. "We get a nice group of kids here" as part of the customer base, Ed said.

The Snug gives back to the community. Sponsoring youth sports teams over the years is one example of this.

Ellen operates The Greenery just around the corner at 39 South St., featuring exquisite floral arrangements for all occasions.

The Snug is typically open for lunch and dinner and features talented local, national, and international performers throughout the week.

During the current events their Facebook page indicates, "as per mandated- we will be offering our tasty Snug steak tips, golden fried fresh chicken fingers, corned beef dinners & all your Snug favorite menu items To-Go. Our hours will be from noon-8pm with a local home delivery option (just ask when you call in). We will miss your smiles & friendly banter. Thank you for your continued support. Ed & Ellen & all your Snug friends."
