Over seventy artists will bring an inspiring array of color, texture and imagination to the streets of Hingham at the 18th annual Hingham Arts Walk on Sunday, October 15, 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. The artists will display or perform their work in more than thirty locations including in stores, on sidewalks and at historical sites stretching from Hingham Center to Downtown in Hingham Square, and toward the harbor on North, Station and Water Streets.
“The Arts Walk keeps expanding with an incredible variety of local talent. We are thrilled to give the community, and visitors, an opportunity to meet local artists and get first-hand insight into their work with the backdrop of our wonderful businesses and our beautiful town,” said Lynn Barclay, executive director of the Hingham Downtown Association. “We’ve made a concerted effort to include interactive workshops and live performances at the Arts Walk, which adds another artistic dimension and an even more celebratory feel to the day. It is a great opportunity for everyone to see all of the amazing dedication and talent in the Hingham High School Drama Department and at other dance and music schools in the area.”
Visitors to the Arts Walk will enjoy fine art painting, photography, illustration, jewelry, mixed media, youth art, pottery, woodworking, and decorative arts. They will see art in action as they stroll past a potter throwing on his wheel, plein air painters capturing the world around them, kids crafting, breakdancing, musical performances, and more. There will also be opportunities for Arts Walk attendees to create their own art at two workshops.
aks_fab, a sustainable apparel line in Hingham, will host an exclusive and interactive pop-up outside on the tunnel cap behind Mahi Gold. It will feature custom clothing, music, artwork and a painting station where participants can transfer their creativity to a wearable garment.
Around the corner, on 88 North Street in the Delicious Designs building, The Boston Artistry Sneaker Bar will host a workshop catering to all age groups that focuses on fostering imaginative and creative skills through the customization of shoes, tees, caps, totes, and more.
The live performances will take place throughout the afternoon at a variety of locations so people can stop and enjoy some entertainment as they saunter through the streets looking at other art mediums. One of the stops will be the Hingham High School department’s showcase of highlights from their upcoming debut of Little Shop of Horrors. Through a partnership between the Hingham Arts Alliance and the Hingham Unity Council, there will be options to see dance ranging from contemporary to breakdancing. Live music can be heard on the tunnel cap from the popular band Take Out. There will also be performances throughout the day from Commonwealth Music, Jesse Stiglich School of Music, South Shore Conservatory and Missy’s Movement Dance.
The Hingham Downtown Association has developed the Arts Walk Guide, which includes a schedule and locations of the artists and performances so attendees can plan their time and make sure they take in everything the day offers. This event is free and it’s rain or shine. For more information visit: www.discoverhingham.com, @hinghamdowntown on Instagram and @downtownhingham Facebook.
