Two Men Arrested After Rifle and Ammunition Found in Woods

A welfare check on Friday led to the arrest of two men after an AR style rifle and ammunition were found hidden in the woods. The call prompted a restaurant and a senior residential community to shelter in place.

On Friday, September 6, 2024 at approximately 4:00pm Officers began looking for a man to check on his welfare at the request of the Bridgewater Police. Bridgewater Police cautioned the man may be in possession of a rifle learned he may be in the area of the Quarry Restaurant and Linden Ponds (a senior residential community).

While searching the area, Officers advised the Quarry Restaurant and Linden Ponds to shelter in place. Weymouth and Norwell Police assisted. The Bridgewater man was located nearby and taken to the hospital. A second man, from West Harwich, was in the Quarry parking lot near his truck. Inside the truck was a rifle ammunition container.

K9’s from Hingham and Norwell Police searched the wooded area near the parking lot and located two additional ammunition containers, two 30 round magazines, one 10 round magazine and a 5.56 caliber AR style rifle with no serial numbers (commonly known as a ghost gun). A specially trained K9 from Foxboro Police later arrived and additional searched the area for any additional guns or ammunition and none were found.

Following an investigation, the West Harwich man was arrested in the parking lot and the Bridgewater man was arrested at South Shore Hospital.

Scott M. McCabe, age 32, of 37 Tony Terrace, Bridgewater, MA was charged with: Possession Large Capacity Firearm, Possession Large Capacity Feeding Device (3 counts), Improper Storage of Large Capacity Firearm, Defacing/No Serial Number on a Firearm and Possession Ammunition Without FID Card (2 counts).

Mark A. Cerundolo, age 32, of 7 Checkerberry Lane, West Harwich, MA was charged with: Witness Intimidation/Misleading Police, Possession Large Capacity Firearm, Possession Ammunition without FID Card and Trespassing.

McCabe was held on $15,000 cash bail at the Hingham Police station. Cerundolo was released after posting $5,000 cash bail. Both were arraigned at Hingham District Court on September 9 and both were ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing set for September 12.

Based on the initial investigation in Bridgewater, Bridgewater Police have also charged McCabe with the following: Possession of a Firearm without FID Card, Possession of Ammunition without FID Card, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Improper Storage of a Firearm. McCabe will be arraigned in Brockton District Court at a later date.### P.I.O. Lt. Steven Dearth.
