Evening with the Author, Robert Morrison
Join the Hingham Library, on Thursday, August 6 at 7:00pm, for the latest, virtual edition of their Evening With the Author series, featuring Robert Morrison, author of The Regency Years: During which Jane Austen Writes, Napoleon Fights, Byron Makes Love, and Britain Becomes Modern.
About the Book:
The Victorians are often credited with ushering in our current era, yet the seeds of change were planted in the years before. With the ascendancy of King George IV to the British throne came the Regency (1811-1820), a period of alternating evangelicalism and hedonism, elegance and brutality, exuberance and despair. Exploring the crosscurrents of artistic achievement and rampant poverty and injustice, scientific progress and overweening colonial ambition, Morrison, Professor at Bath Spa University in England and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, illuminates the profound ways in which the Regency years shaped and indelibly marked the modern world.
