Vaccination clinics offered for students 12 and over tomorrow, May 28

May 27, 2021 by Carol Britton Meyer

Following an enthusiastic response to last week's survey, a vaccination clinic for Hingham Public Schools high and middle school students in partnership with Brewster Ambulance is scheduled for Friday, May 28.

Only students 12 years of age and older are eligible to participate and will be administered their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. There are no exceptions to the age requirement.

Brewster Ambulance is subcontracted by the Department of Public Health to provide these vaccines.

The middle school clinic will be held in the gym between 8 and 10 a.m. Students will be directed to report at a specified time, alphabetically, throughout the morning, have the shot administered, and remain in the gym for 15 to 30 minutes in order to be monitored for any potential reactions.

The high school clinic will take place in the gym later in the day, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Students who wish to participate should report to the gym according to the following schedule (going by last names beginning with the letters listed):

*12:30 to 12:45 p.m., A-D
*12:45 to 1 p.m., E-H
*1 to 1:15 p.m., I-L
*1:15 to 1:30 p.m., M-P
*1:30 to 1:45 p.m., Q-T
*1:45 to 2:00 p.m., U-Z

Students must arrive with the completed consent and screening forms (provided in an email sent to parents and guardians on May 25). Pre-registration through the Vaccination Registration Form is required.

It is the student’s responsibility to report to the vaccination area at the appropriate time with completed paperwork. School administrators will not be able to track down students who fail to report.

Parents and guardians do not need to be present in order for a student to participate and are asked not to attend for traffic and crowd-control purposes.

Those with specific questions/health concerns, should ontact one of the HPS school nurses prior to Friday.

HPS will hold a follow-up clinic in order to administer the second shot on June 18, with details to follow.

Both principals are available to answer questions or to provide additional information.
