The title is by Eleanor Roosevelt. She gave this caption to Francis Cook Macgregor’s photo of a class in Hingham in 1941. Mrs. Roosevelt went on to describe Hingham’s schools as cheerful and comfortable. This scene is at the West School on Thaxter Street. Val Duff who went to the West School identified the kids shown here. They are Carolyn Pinel, Wilton Whitcomb, Josephine Tedesco, George Seton, Ginny Magnoli, Catherine Zona (now Ruffini), Pauline Geodecke, JoAnn Davis and Bob Magner. Francis Cook Macgregor took the pictures and Eleanor Roosevelt wrote the caption for the book, published in 1942, This is America that promoted the people of America.
