The first troop of Girl Scouts in Hingham was formed in 1917 with 25 girls. They quickly took to the program learning first aid, nature, government, sewing and cooking. They joined the Hingham Boy Scouts for a Winter Carnival on the Cadet Grounds in South Hingham at the corner of Main and Prospect Streets. Games consisted of 100-yard dash in snow shoes, ski Jumping, Obstacle Race in snow shoes and a sled race. The Girl Scouts served donuts and hot cocoa at the end of the day as all gathered around a huge bonfire. This photo is in the archives of the Hingham Girl Scout House.
