Way Back Wednesday: Hingham Radio Service Shop - Hingham Anchor

Way Back Wednesday: Hingham Radio Service Shop

The smallest of all the buildings that have been re-purposed in Hingham is the ticket office from the Melville Garden that was in Crow Point. New in 1871, it was moved to Hingham Centre in 1897 after the park closed. Peeking over the roof is the Hose drying tower on the Fire House on Short Street. Note the small phone booth between the buildings placed there courtesy of Ma Bell. To the left of the radio shop would be today’s Atlantic Bagel. The building became a laundry; then Michael Passero operated a cobbler shop there and after him, in the 1960s, Hingham Fire Chief Fletcher Patch ran the Hingham Radio Service. The building was moved to Station Street when the area was renovated. Jack and Frank’s Seafood started there. They later moved to North Street in West Hingham and the Looking Glass Salon took over the little building. This photo is from the Hingham Historical Society.
