This building at the corner of North St. and Bank Ave. started out as a state bank incorporated as The Hingham Bank in 1853. In 1864 an act of Congress established national banks. The Hingham Bank applied for a national charter and in 1865 became the Hingham National Bank. In later years it moved over to South St. at the corner of Lafayette. In 1916, the South Street building became the Hingham Trust Company, then the post office and is now CVS. And today the North Street location houses business offices.
