Hingham Holiday Gift Guide

WHEN THEY SAY the three most stressful things in life are death, divorce and moving, they’re leaving off the fourth: gift-giving. What do you get for a person who keeps an eye on the most current “it” objects, or for the 15-year-old member of Generation Z who thinks your taste is “soooo lame”? Take a load off; The Anchor is here to put the “happy” back in holidays.

STYLE

You’ll “Falk-ing” Love It!

Stumped on what to get your mother, sister, friend or even yourself this holiday? A piece of jewelry is almost always a safe bet. We all know the old adage that big, fancy diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but in 2018, we’d argue that diamond chips, precious coral and weighty pendants are just as desirable, if not more so. The handmade jewelry from Falk Jewelry Designs is fresh and unique.  Kerrin Forsyth brings her zen sense of style to pieces that will become classic, go-to faves.

Available at kLoTH (28 South Street) or falkjewelrydesigns.com

“Grey Lady” Love

Label lovers rejoice upon discovering the handcrafted Nantucket Basket Bracelets with a knack for incorporating Chanel, Hermes, Gucci, Goyard, Louis, and the like. Each bracelet is hand woven on a brass cuff using the traditional Nantucket basket material of rattan, and made by longtime Hinghamite, Dar Collins. These particular bracelets, with their luxury brand ribbons, add a modern edge to an otherwise traditional New England Prepster look.

Available at Waterhouse (106 North Street) and Details & Goods (60 South Street).

No Drama Mamas

Okay, so you have a lot on the brain. Did you leave the coffee machine on? What was that look your kid’s teacher just gave you? What to get your MIL for the holidays? Should you have eaten that extra serving of carrot hummus at lunch today? Let such minutiae be the last of your worries. Get back to your happy place with chill vibes and a drama free zone. Hingham moms are drawn to the No Wake Lifestyle company that promotes a “no wake mindset” and encourages others to make waves elsewhere. One of our favorite stocking stuffers is the No Wake winter hat. And, yes, there’s always room for more carrot hummus.

FOOD & DRINK

Deceptively Delicious

Chances are there are at least a few people in your life who regularly lament the fact they don’t cook healthy enough. They might follow countless recipe accounts on Instagram where they are soothed by over-the-top organic menus, but never quite get around to meal prepping for them. If that sounds at all familiar, consider gifting the new culinary startup Clandestine Kitchen, who specializes in creating healthy meals for delivery and pick-up. The price is right, the portions are generous, and the perfectly seasoned meals are anything but secret.

Wine Not?

We’ve already made you aware of our love of Ralph’s Hingham Wine Merchant and we know that any wine, craft beer or gourmet food aficionado on your list would be thrilled with a gift card to this special shop.  Not only is their selection top notch but Ralph, his wife Kim and their staff are incredibly approachable, helpful and FUN.  Additionally, their wildly successful “Corks & Forks” series of wine and food pairing classes would make for a great gift experience.

Visit Ralph’s Hingham Wine Merchant, 74 North Street and online at https://www.ralphshwm.com.

Stocking the Bar

Another wine option just outside town lines is Barrel & Vine.  Yes, we know it’s out of “the bubble” but the owners are proud Hingham residents and their shop is a destination worth driving to.  You’ve improvised through many a holiday hosting snafu (goldfish always makes for an excellent Santa snack), but two words still send you reeling: wine shortage. You never (ever) want to be caught empty-handed, so keep your bar stocked with some of the finest wines, craft beer and and cheeses you’ll find this side of Bordeaux. Barrel & Vine will blow your mind with their amazing curbside pick-up. Santa’s going to love the upgrade!

BOOKS & FINE ART

What’s Old is New Again

Calling all history buffs, newbies and of course, Townies: The Hingham Historical Society’s recently renovated Hingham Heritage Museum has a gorgeous new gift shop with something for everyone, including the young, and young at heart. We’re partial to the multitude of coffee table books featuring Hingham’s rich history, but there are signed copies of books by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Hingham resident, David McCullough on hand, too. While you’re there, sign up for a membership and help support the dedication to collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting the history of Hingham.

Another great gifting option is a gift of fine art, do yourself a favor and swing by Waterhouse Antiques on North Street.  Amber Waterhouse is a talented fine artist and many of her pieces are available for purchase.  Additionally, she and her team have an amazing eye for hand selecting other local artists and fine antiques that even the pickiest person on your list is sure to cherish.

The Art of Home

While art can be a tricky piece to purchase, we think a nice print is always an unexpected gift. Being completely addicted to bold pieces ourselves, we love the witty and bright city-centric posters by jenshe. Jenny and Sheila (get it? Jen-She) think in color and also offer cards, notepads, calendars, and coasters. Custom orders are also available, because, well, we’re Hingham.

Doublemint Home is acurated collection of home accents that inspire beauty and functionality. Hingham’s newest and most unique shopping experience is designed to dazzle and priced to delight, but pieces are limited which means you won’t see it in everyone else’s home. The boss blondes behind the business offer a thoughtful assortment to update your home space season to season, plus serve as source for unique hostess gifts without making you dread the next credit card statement.
